WAGs Diaper Deal Disaster PDF Print E-mail

I rushed out right around midnight headed for the nearest 24hr Walgreen's to get in on the double dip on the WAGs brand diapers and training pants. As soon as I arrived I grabbed the circular and a cart and headed for the pharmacy. I asked about the savings plan and for the coupon book the pharmacist had no clue what I was talking about. He gives me a handout on what Rx meds I can get a 90 day supply of for like $12.99. I head to the diaper isle and grab 3 packages of training pants. There is an employee working in the isle and I ask him for the coupon booklet he says oh yeah one second. He returns with a July Easy Saver Book. I said no this is not what I'm looking for and tried to explain it better. He had no clue and another employee came to the isle and he said oh I think I know. He returns with the WAGs Kids Coloring Book that has coupons in it. I say ok and take it, however it's not the coupons I was hoping to receive. I didn't have the coloring book yet so I wasn't totally at a loss. I carry on my shopping and out of the corner of my eye I notice that Kid's Maalox is on clearance for $3.19. I knew immediately that the July ES had a $2 coupon for these and quickly rummaged through my binder to see what I had for manufacturer coupons. I had the $2 off any Maalox Tablets and the Maalox Kids are tablets so I decide to take my chances and see if this coupon will work on the children's variety. As I briefly overlooked the WAGs Coloring Book Coupons I notice a $1 IVC for none other than Children's Maalox. Whoo Hoo I think silently to myself as I calculate the potential overage I could receive for buying this item. Potential overage is $1.81 each, I think to myself hey this can make up for not finding that coupon booklet at the pharmacy. I get 6 Maalox and decide that I could use the overage to it's fullest potential if I buy 3 sets of diapers 2 times and use 3 boxes of Maalox for overage in each transaction. So back to the diaper isle I go. I grab the red packages of WAGs diapers (mega packages) the sign said $5.99, however at the register I would quickly find out these were mislabeled and are really $7.xx. Before hitting the register I grab some Reynold's Wrap and head for the school supplies. I grab a few items for myself at home and them some other supplies from my son's school supply list to make sure I would use up all my overage. I ended up canceling the first transaction because the ES coupon was not working on these packages of diapers. So I end up just tossing everything on the counter to checkout only one time. So far everything going well until I hand him the August ES $5/2 diaper coupon that I printed at home. It beeps and says coupon does not exist. The Manager tells me this is because the new book doesn't start yet. I tell him that can't be why because today is the 25th and that is when the August book starts. He says you're right it is the 25th. Well needless to say since the coupon was not scanning they would not honor it saying I couldn't use two coupons on the same items. SIGH...then on to the rest of my coupons. Being frazzled from the diaper coupon not working I hand the cashier the coupons from the weekly ad not thinking that it would mess up my $1 Reynold's Wrap coupons. So the cashier ended up voiding the coupons on the foil, then the foil, re-ringing it up and price modifying it to $1 and then leaving 1 at regular price because I only had a $.75 coupon for one and then scanning my manufacturers coupons. I don't know why they did this instead of just price modifying or overriding the coupon because after all that they scanned the weekly IVC and I ended up with the overage that they said I couldn't get. Then comes the Maalox ES coupon and coloring book coupons, I have no problems using both of them. Strange huh? I ended up paying $7.26 for my purchase, $3.45 of that being tax. Not too shabby since I got a $5 RR back. Good thing in this case that the August ES coupon didn't work or I'd have gone in the negative. So I hope to return tomorrow and give it a second go around and maybe find the Rx Coupons at another WAGs. If anyone else tries using both ES Coupons please comment and confirm whether or not the August ES Coupon is working and how the Rx Coupon is working if you use it too.
